Everything You Need To Start Making Ice Cream At Home

Best Budget Friendly Ice Cream Makers For Your Kitchen

I currently use this 4-quart automatic ice cream maker by Hamilton Beach and here is why…….

  • The size: Ice cream disappears very quickly in my house so I tend to make larger batches. This is a 4-quart machine while those with the freezer bowl tend to hold 1-1.5 quart.
  • The price: I purchased mines on amazon so you can check out the price. Yes, there is the inconvenience of having to do a little extra planning since it is one of those ice cream makers that requires ice and rock salt, but it really doesn’t take a lot. I can process my homemade rum and raisin ice cream base by emptying 2 ice trays about 3 or 4 times. For me, planning 24hrs ahead is definitely worth getting a budget-friendly ice cream maker that can process more than twice the liquid as more expensive and smaller machines.
  • Easy to use: Very easy to assemble and it stops when the ice cream is ready. Also cleanup is not as difficult as one would think.

I have been using this machine for about 2 years and never had a problem. It can get a bit loud though so beware of that. I did find that the ice cream freezes very quickly if I chilled the base overnight and I don’t need an excessive amount of ice or salt.

Again, the main trade off with this machine is that if you don’t always have enough extra ice in your freezer, then forget satisfying your spur of the moment ice cream craving. It’s up to you to decide what is more important, having more ice cream or having it right away.

Ok, now for those who prefer their freezer bowl machines. There are two budget-friendly ones that recommend.
